Joseph R. Brown was a Minnesota pioneer, frontiersmen, inventor, delegate, Indian agent, fur trader and the founder of Henderson, Brown's Valley, Hastings, and Stillwater.

Sibley County is home to seven cities - Henderson, Arlington, New Auburn, Winthrop, Green Isle, Gaylord and Gibbon. The Sibley County Historical Museum encompasses each their histories here in Henderson.

The Society was formed in 1940 with August L. Poehler as president.

 

**The Sibley County Historical Museum is located just west of the old Sibley County Courthouse on Main Street in the former A.F. Poehler residence. The structure itself was placed on the National Register of

Historic Sites in 1982.

100 Years Ago: March 11, 1910
     A party and dance was given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Beliveau in Jessenland last Thursday evening. Those present report a fine time.
     Fred Schrupp is making arrangements to have a new residence erected on lots known as the Haas place, on Fifth Street.
August Bosel and Jos. Enkhaue, two local sportsmen, captured the biggest muskalonge ever seen in this section, in the Rush River on Tuesday of this week. The finny monster tipped the scales at 35 pounds.


50 Years Ago: March 24, 1960
     Donald and Florence Mediger purchased the business of Harry’s Place from Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hulscher last week and will take possession of same April 1. The Hulschers have operated the tavern for the past 5 1/2 years.
     Chosen as Henderson’s girl and boy state candidates were Miss Stella Schneider and David Grande. Chosen as alternates were Miss Margaret Hendrickson and Les Schroeder.
     Listed on the official City of Henderson ballot are Elmer Tolf for alderman and Paul P. Kroehler, for city clerk.


40 Years Ago: March 26, 1970
    
Doug Thomas, 5’11” center for the Henderson Tigers, has been unanimously selected to the All-Conference Basketball team.
     The Henderson PTA is sponsoring an all-school family carnival April 4 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Henderson Public School. The carnival will include several games as well as a cake walk, concession stand and a pizza shop.
     “Incoming mail hasn’t been amounting to much,” was Postmaster Earl Johnson’ comment Tuesday morning on the postal strike. Floyd Foltz, rural route two carrier, and Wayne Doheny, route one, have been making daily deliveries with light loads, hauling mostly local mail and Twin City and Mankato newspapers which have always been shipped here by truck.

30 Years Ago: March 20, 1980
    
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard J. Blaschko wish to announce the engagement of their daughter, Renee Marie, to Edward Evan Berger. An October 4th wedding is being planned.
     Enjoying the “bright lights” of Las Vegas from Wednesday afternoon until Sunday morning were Sam Poole, Fred Wentzlaff and Terry Tiegs.


20 Years Ago: March 22, 1990
     Students of the Month included Kristine Flannery, Tracy Meyer, Stephanie Engel, Beth Grapentine, Mark Latzke, Kim Krentz, Nicole Mayer, Marysia Chaves, Maurie Stowell, Jason Borgardts and Bob Bisher.
     Don Boehne of this community was the lucky winner of the $500 cash prize given away by the Henderson Lions Club at the St. Patrick’s Dinner and Dance Saturday evening. Incidentally, Boehne had also won the $500 prize in February of 1987.


10 Years Ago: March 16, 2000
     LS-H High School’s LifeSmarts Team 1 became Champions in the LifeSmarts State Tournament in Minneapolis last Tuesday. Members of the team are Lindsey Braun, James Pautz, Jennie Morgan, Mike Burns and Julie Braun. They were coached by Don Dickinson.
     Rev. Mark Binder has been selected as the new Pastor of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Henderson.
     Whitney Stockwell’s 12-foot jump shot rimmed out as the clock struck twelve and the LS-H girls basketball ride in the playoffs turned into a pumpkin. The Giants Cinderella run in the Section 2AA West subsection playoffs ended in heartbreak against Blue Earth Area, 48-47. Jackie Doerr led the Giants with 13 points followed by Stockwell with 12.
