Joseph R. Brown was a Minnesota pioneer, frontiersmen, inventor, delegate, Indian agent, fur trader and the founder of Henderson, Brown's Valley, Hastings, and Stillwater.

Sibley County is home to seven cities - Henderson, Arlington, New Auburn, Winthrop, Green Isle, Gaylord and Gibbon. The Sibley County Historical Museum encompasses each their histories here in Henderson.
The Society was formed in 1940 with August L. Poehler as president.
**The Sibley County Historical Museum is located just west of the old Sibley County Courthouse on Main Street in the former A.F. Poehler residence. The structure itself was placed on the National Register of
Historic Sites in 1982.

100 Years Ago: March 11, 1910
High School Notes: A baseball meeting was held Monday evening and twenty-five high school students were in attendance. A team was organized with Prof. F.L. Bauer as corresponding secretary, James Sweeney as manager and Fred Stucke as captain.

The roads are in poor condition for travel at present, and business is somewhat slow in consequence.
50 Years Ago: March 17, 1960
The Troldahl Printing Company and its main publication, the Henderson Independent, and property were purchased this week by Leonard Blaschko of Le Center. Sale of the property by the present owners, Oscar and Ruth Troldahl was completed Monday and possession will be given April 1.
Showing at the Le Sueur Theatre Thursday, Friday and Saturday is Tarzan The Ape Man. Late show Friday at 11 p.m. is The Thing.
40 Years Ago: March 19, 1970
We Salute Our Servicemen: Mr. and Mrs. Willard Doerr received word Tuesday their son, Gerald, had been promoted from Corporal to Sergeant and that he had left from DaNang, Vietnam for the United States. He is expected to arrive at Camp Pendleton, CA in about 20 days. Doerr had been stationed in Vietnam since July 5, 1969.
30 Years Ago: March 13, 1980
Installation was completed the forepart of the week of a forced air solar furnace system on the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon V. Almquist, 314 Main Street. The unit, a 8’x16’x40” size solar frame, storing up energy from the sun and is thermostatically controlled. An oil furnace will be maintained as a standby unit.
Members of the Henderson City Council unanimously approved a motion at their meeting Wednesday evening to rename the Henderson City Park. The new name is “Fred C. Bender Memorial Park” in memory of Mr. Bender who was a mayor here for 20 years and an avid sports fan, who seldom missed any sporting event.
The Henderson Area Jaycees pancake and sausage breakfast will be held Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Henderson Community Building. Adults are $2.50, Under 12, $1.50 and pre-schoolers, free.
20 Years Ago: March 15, 1990
The Henderson Boy’s Basketball team lost to Gaylord, 86-58, in the first round of district play on Tuesday. The Tigers were lead by Tony Nagel, who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds, Jerry Buesgens scored 12 points and David Spellman, 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The 23rd annual Henderson United Charity Fund Drive will kickoff on Thursday. Officers for this year are President Joyce Schultz, Vice President Ann Zeiher, Secretary Deb Mathwig, Treasurer Lynn Karels and Directors LaVaun Berger and Irene Doerr.
10 Years Ago: March 9, 2000
Hot shooting and a strong inside presence carried the Le Sueur-Henderson boys basketball team to a first round 73-56 playoff win over Lake Crystal-Welcome Memorial. Jared Vinkemeier led all scorers with 18 points while Denis Connelly added 15 in the winning effort. Derrick Graff scored 12 and Jeff Miller chipped in 11 for the Giants.
Four members of the Le Sueur- Henderson-Cleveland wrestling team were named to the Minnesota River Conference’s honor list. Those wrestlers include senior Matt DePyper, Ryan Laabs, eighth grader Danny Dahn and freshman B.J. Biehn. Receiving honorable mention was senior Nate Olson.
